So the days passed. Nicole spent them a lot with Diego and going places and visiting old friends.
On the night before Nicole would have to leave, she and Diego were laying in the back yard on the grass looking up at the sky, holding each other’s hand.
“I’m gonna miss this,” muttered Nicole.
“Not as much as me,” said Diego.
“The stars are so bright tonight.”
“Yeah.” Diego looked at Nicole. He grinned and said, “We should have a sparing contest, you and I.”
Nicole looked at Diego and said, “Well that was random.”
Diego quickly got on top of Nicole, pinned her, and grinned down at her. “Let’s see what you got.”
Nicole tried to move, but couldn’t move her arms as Diego had them pinned on the ground. She looked up into his triumphant blue eyes and said, “Don’t think you are winning.”
Diego laughed and said, “You haven’t flipped me yet.”
“Don’t get cocky.” Nicole then tried moving her legs, but still was unable to get out from under him. Then she had an idea. “Kiss me, Diego.”
Diego, caught off-guard, looked at Nicole with a shocked expression. “What?” he said.
“I want you to kiss me, Diego. Please.”
Diego looked around the yard and at the Capsule Corp. building to make sure no one was watching. He then leaned down and kissed Nicole. While he did so he loosened his grip on her wrists and sat up a little, trying to get up from on top of her.
As Nicole felt Diego pulling away from her she took her chance. She quickly wrapped her arms around his neck and made it where he had to keep kissing her. She then surprised him by pushing her body and his to roll so that she was on top of him instead and then she pinned his arms down. She sat up from the kiss, grinned, and said, “I win.”
Diego was shocked and a little breathless. “You play dirty,” he said.
“I learn from the best.”
Diego blushed and said, “Nicole, maybe we should stop now, before we go pass the point of no return. You are driving me mad.”
Nicole grinned at the power she was having over him at that moment.
Unbeknownst to them, somebody was watching them from the shadows of the house.
Nicole laughed and said, “Let’s see how mad I can drive you.”
“Yes, let’s,” came the voice of the person who was watching them.
Nicole gasped and quickly got up off of Diego. She tried to compose herself as Diego quickly stood up also.
King Vegeta walked out of the shadows towards them.
“Gr-grandfather,” said Diego, “I didn’t know you were coming over tonight.”
Nicole was so embarrassed that she kept her eyes to the ground as King Vegeta stood in front of them. She didn’t know what to say or how to act in the present situation, despite all she had learned.
“I thought it would be a pleasant surprise visit,” said King Vegeta, “And what a surprise I got in return. I didn’t expect the princess of Gastavia to be here as well.”
Diego could sense Nicole’s uneasiness and said, “Why don’t we let father know you have arrived?”
“You do that, Diego,” said King Vegeta, “I’ll wait out here with the princess.”
Diego looked at Nicole. Nicole felt extremely nervous, but refused to give a hint of that to King Vegeta. She looked at Diego and nodded. Diego then ran into Capsule Corp., reluctantly.
“Well well well, Princess Nicole,” said King Vegeta, “We meet at last.”
Nicole gave a little bow and said, “So we do, King Vegeta.”
King Vegeta smirked and said, “Since when do future queens roll in the grass?”
A hint of red colored Nicole’s cheeks as she said, “That-that wasn’t what it looked like, I assure you. I-.”
“Then?”
Nicole swallowed. She didn’t know what to say. “I-he-I was teaching him not to fall for tricks like that when fighting…”
King Vegeta laughed. “Oh, Princess, you still have a lot to learn before you become queen.”
At that moment Chiaki walked outside. He saw King Vegeta and Nicole and quickly walked over to them. “There you are, my princess!” he said, wrapping his arm around her elbow, “Let me escort you inside to get ready for dinner.” He then pulled her with him.
“Yes, and make sure you get the grass out of your hair, Princess,” said King Vegeta, grinning.
As they walked inside Capsule Corp., Nicole said to Chiaki, “Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it,” said Chiaki, “It’s my job to protect you. Now let’s get upstairs to your room.”
They quickly walked up the stairs to Nicole’s room. Chiaki closed and locked the door behind them. He turned and looked at Nicole, who had sat down on the bed looking at the floor.
He gave her a reproving look and said, “I did say to be careful, Princess.”
Nicole looked up at Chiaki. “I know,” she said, “Chiaki, I-.”
“Of all people to show up, the king of the saiyans.”
“I feel so embarrassed.”
Chiaki sat beside Nicole on the bed. He looked at her and said, “Nicole, you are our future queen. It’s my responsibility to make sure that no harm comes to you. How can I do my job if you keep telling me to go away?”
Nicole felt a tinge of guilt. “I’m sorry. It’s just sometimes I don’t like being constantly watched.”
Chiaki sighed and said, “It’s not about constantly watching you. It’s about keeping watch around you to make sure no harm comes to you. I understand you want your privacy, but we can’t risk harm coming to you.”
“No harm would come to me with…”
“It’s not his job to protect you!” said Chiaki, becoming jealous. “He is a damn saiyan! Enemy to our people! What do you not understand about that!”
Nicole was surprised at the sudden outburst. “Chiaki, Diego is not our enemy!”
“But his race is!”
“What do you have against saiyans, Chiaki?”
“Besides the fact that we are constantly having confrontations with them? They killed my family.”
Nicole gasped and said, “I didn’t know.”
“Yeah, the counsel keeps it all hush-hush to avoid war. I was with my family when it happened. A couple of saiyans raided where we lived. They killed everyone. My mother and brother were the first to die. My father took me to a secret place and told me to stay there and suppress my energy. I did. He then was killed before my very eyes. My father was a general of our army. He had sent a distress call, but the reinforcements came too late. I was the only survivor in our village. Because of my father’s status was how I came to be serving my time in the palace and being trained in the army. I swore I would take my vengeance one day and yet here I am in a house full of those vermin, and the king of them all is standing right outside. You have no idea how-.” Tears formed in Chiaki’s eyes.
Nicole quickly hugged him. “I’m so sorry all of this has happened to you! I’m sorry!”
Chiaki was taken back by the sudden hug. Chiaki swallowed and said, “What are you sorry for? It wasn’t your doings what happened.”
He put his arms around her and reciprocated the hug. This feels strange, he thought.
They got out of the hug. Chiaki took a blade of grass out of Nicole’s hair. He smiled and said, “Maybe you should get ready for dinner, Princess.”
“You’ve got to be joking,” said Vegeta, after Diego came into the living room to inform him of King Vegeta’s arrival. “He’s here? Now?”
“Yes,” said Diego, “And…well-let’s just say, he came the worst time ever.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well me and Nicole were just…sparing a bit, but I pinned her, she pinned me…some words were said…and he witnessed it all.”
Vegeta stood there staring at Diego, a little stunned. “And where’s Nicole?”
“I left her with Grandfather…”
Vegeta quickly made his way to the back door in Capsule Corp. and walked outside. King Vegeta was sitting down at the patio table and grinned when he saw Vegeta walk out.
“Father!” said Vegeta, “What a surprise.”
Diego walked out also. “Where did Nicole go?” he asked.
“The Princess was escorted inside by I presume her personal guard,” said King Vegeta. He then looked at Vegeta and said, “You should keep a better watch over your son here. We don’t want our future king one day mingling with our enemies.”
“Nicole is far from an enemy along with her people,” said Diego, “I don’t understand this feud going on between us and them.”
King Vegeta chuckled and said, “It’s nice how you are on first name basis with her. Now are we going inside?”
Vegeta nodded and walked back inside. King Vegeta followed, but before he went in he looked at Diego and said, “Stay away from her if you want to keep your terms good with me, boy.”
Diego glared at his grandfather at those words. King Vegeta then went inside.
