Diego’s Story: Chapter 19

A few days later Diego was trying not to laugh as he was putting fake facial hair on Nicole’s face. Vegeta was watching as he did so.

“I would like to know how you two figure this will work?” asked Vegeta, seeming highly amused.

“Well,” said Diego, chuckling, “If she does not have a little fuzz in some places, her face will be more recognizable, especially to grandfather, as she and Ashen have the same face almost.”

Nicole felt where Diego had applied the facial hair. She then had a small mustache and a little hair on the bottom of her chin.

I can’t kiss you like this haha, Diego thought telepathically to Nicole.

Nicole narrowed her eyes at Diego.

“Looks like your injuries are clearing up some,” said Vegeta.

“Yes, I’m feeling a lot less sore,” said Nicole.

“There’s one more thing you have to work on though,” said Diego, “Your voice. If you talk like this around here, all of this facial hair isn’t going to work.”

“She could pass for a young boy,” said Vegeta, “But it’s still her voice.”

Nicole cleared her throat a little and said in a slightly deeper voice, “How is this?”

Diego fell off his seat laughing. Nicole stood up off her seat and punched Diego and then cried out in pain, as her arms were still sore. This just caused Diego to laugh harder.

“If you keep laughing, I’ll kick you in a very unfunny place,” said Nicole through gritted teeth.

“Okay, okay,” said Diego, slowing his laughing down and standing up. “You win. Let’s do this.”

Moments later they walked into the palace dining hall. In there sitting at a long dining table was King Vegeta, sitting at the head, and Truce, sitting on one side of the table, skipping a seat from King Vegeta. Vegeta sat between King Vegeta and Truce. Diego looked at Nicole and telepathically told her to stand against the wall to wait. Nicole nodded and did as Diego told her as Diego went to sit on the other side of King Vegeta.

“Took you two long enough this morning,” said King Vegeta.

“Sorry, grandfather,” said Diego, “I am informing my new personal servant of his duties today and this morning I lost track of time.”

“Hmph,” said King Vegeta, “New servant?” He then looked at Nicole curiously. He then looked back at Diego and said, “It’s unlike you to want a servant.”

            “Couldn’t hurt,” said Diego.

Truce looked at Nicole. She looked surprised for a split second and then looked down at the table, acting as if she didn’t notice Nicole at all.

“You sure he can survive?” said King Vegeta, “He looks a little skimpy to me.” He then laughed a little.

Diego laughed a little as well and said, “He’ll grow.”

“He better,” said King Vegeta, “How old is he?”

Diego thought for a second. Nicole was 18, but he decided for her to be a little younger as a boy. “Sixteen,” said Diego, “His name is Dimitri. He’s an orphan I found in the street looking for work. I saw promise in him and decided to give him a chance as a servant.”

“A common street rat,” said King Vegeta, “Make sure he doesn’t steal you blind and make sure he knows his place around here.”

            “Of course, grandfather.”

Suddenly servants began to bring the saiyans their breakfast.

After breakfast, Nicole followed Diego and Vegeta as Diego showed her to the kitchens for her to get something to eat. In the kitchen, saiyan servants were preparing their breakfasts as well.

“Dimitri,” said Diego to Nicole, “This is the time that the servants eat. After you finish, meet me in the garden. If you need help, ask on of the other servants how to get there. Understood?”

Nicole looked around the kitchen. She felt so small compared to the other servants. But at the same time, they didn’t look to pose a threat to her as the thugs who had attacked her days before. They seemed more tamed, so to say. She looked at Diego and nodded.

“Okay,” said Diego. He didn’t want to leave her like he was about to among the other saiyans, but they had to make their act convincing. I’ll see you later, he said telepathically to her, Stay out of trouble.

Don’t worry, Nicole replied telepathically, I’ll be fine.

Diego and Vegeta then left the kitchen.

Nicole looked at the other servants. She was starving, but at the same time felt as if butterflies were in her stomach.

“You’re new,” said a gruff voice behind Nicole.

Nicole looked behind her to see an old saiyan servant standing behind her. He was the same height as her and had white, short, spiky hair and wore grey servant clothing. Nicole said in her boyish voice, “Is it that obvious?”

“Come,” said the old saiyan, “Let’s get some food.”

Nicole walked with the old saiyan and they both filled their plates with food. They then found a place to sit separate from the other servants and began eating.

“My name is Kabocha,” said the old saiyan.

            “Ka…bo…cha?” said Nicole.

            “Yep. What’s your name, boy?”

            “N-Dimitri. My name’s Dimitri.”

“Dimitri, it’ll be best for you to not look so timid here. Some of these servants might take that as a chance to exterminate you.”

“Oh, I’m sorry. I’ll toughen up, no worries. It’s my first day. I’m Prince Diego’s personal servant.”

“All the more reason to protect yourself here. Most of these servants would kill to have a higher position such as that. Prince Diego must have taken a liking to you. He never has personal servants.”

Nicole blushed a little and then remembered Diego’s story. “He found me on the streets,” she said, “I guess ‘pity’ is more the correct term than liking.”

“Well, ‘pity’ then,” said Kabocha, “Maybe he thought to break you in easily as to how frail you are. Well, if you ever need help, ask old Kabocha here to assist you.”

            Nicole smile and said, “Thanks.”
